Transportation
Stonybrook Day Camp is proud to provide door-to-door transportation using Laidlaw, the most renowned
bus company in the world and North America’s largest provider of school bus transportation. We
use 16-passenger minibuses, the safest* mode of transportation available according to the American
Camping Association. Buses are operated by Laidlaw drivers—part of the Stonybrook family—all
of whom hold commercial driver’s licenses and are professional drivers.
In addition to the driver, a Stonybrook Day Camp Bus Supervisor staffs each bus. Our bus staff is responsible for supervising our campers’ journeys to and from camp, and they do their best to make sure everyone gets in the Stonybrook spirit.
At Stonybrook Day Camp, camp starts the moment your child steps on the bus. Fun, games, and, of course, safety is taken very seriously. To this end, one of our most beloved Stonybrook traditions is the “Van Challenge.” The “Van Challenge” is a competition between buses in which the children, led by their counselors, sing songs, play games, and decorate their van attempting to outshine other vans.
The “Van Challenge” is part and parcel of our commitment to making your child’s journey to camp the safest and most enjoyable experience possible.
*For our smallest travelers (Junior Campers), car seats are available upon request.
