Leadership Team

Roger and Amanda Black (Owners and Directors)

Roger Black.Roger Black was born and raised in Livingston, New Jersey. Roger spent 13 summers at camp, including day camp, sleep away camp, and multiple camp-travel programs, including glacier skiing through Europe. For Roger, camp was more than just learning how to swim, ski, and play baseball. It was there that he met some of his best lifelong friends and learned to love camp.

Roger has worked hard to cultivate the loyalty, commitment to others, and leadership skills that he learned at camp, and these traits have stayed with him as an adult. Now, all grown up, Roger continues to help make things better for others. As a leader in the community, Roger has contributed his time and energy to United Jewish Appeal Metrowest, numerous Habitat for Humanities projects and is on the Board of Trustees at Temple Bnai Abraham. Roger also recently helped to empty a hospital of its equipment and supplies for donation to a local charity. Finally, Roger is, appropriately enough, an active member of the American Camping Association, an organization that helps him to be aware of the happenings in the world of camping and day camps.

After venturing out and making his way in the world, Roger has returned to camp—his first love—in order to continue operating Stonybrook, his family business. Roger and his wife Amanda, look forward to meeting all the Stonybrook campers and making their summer experience one of the best of their lives.

Matt Buczek (Assistant Director/Upper Camp Boys Director)

Matt Buczek.Matt Buczek has spent the past 18 summers at camp. Matt grew up in Yorkshire, England where he first went to camp. Matt has a bachelors degree in Camping and Education from Sheffield University and also a Bachelors Degree from Huddersfield in Financial Management. He has worked as a High School Teacher and Head of Faculty in England and also coached Varsity Soccer for the Heathcote. More recently Matt taught middle school Math at little Falls School #1.

Matt has been involved with stonybrook for years and has run some of the largest summer camp programs in the Northeast. In his spare time he has
served on the board of teaching faculty at the YMCA and also serves his local community as a volunteer firefighter.

Matt is available year-round at the Stonybrook office working on all the details for a great summer!

Shelly Britner (Camp Mom)

Shelly BritnerYes, it is true—Shelly has spent more than 40 years at Stonybrook, and she is still able to get around camp on her own two feet. Camp has changed a lot over the years, but one thing that will never change is her devotion to the children.

Shelly has been involved in almost every aspect of camp including Junior camp director for 26 years and director of the the arts-and-crafts program. During the school year, Shelly is a teacher at Solomon Schecter Day School of Essex and Union. You will find her in either pre-K or kindergarten, depending on the year. During her free time she is busy doing many interesting things—reading, spending time with her family, volunteering at the temple or the food pantry, and helping children.

Alysia Battista (Upper Camp Girls Director)

Alysia Battista, Upper Camp Girls Director, returns for another summer at Stonybrook Day Camp. She has spent time as a counselor, art director, and assistant director at other camps before coming to Stonybrook as a Teen Xtreme counselor and sports specialist.

Alysia Battista is an elementary school science and technology teacher in Princeton, NJ. She just completed her Masters Degree in Special Education from Montclair State University. She coached high school soccer and teaches soccer classes at Lifetime Athletic in Florham Park.

And when she is not thinking about camp... Alysia loves the Yankees, the beach, and ZUMBA classes. She also enjoys playing sports, gardening, and watching home improvement shows in the hopes that she'll own her own house in the very near future. In her spare time, she scrapbooks, takes pictures, and visits her two nieces and nephew. Alysia brings experience, energy and a love for camp to the leadership team and we are excited to have her back for another summer.

Alyse Goldschmidt (Teen Xtreme Director)

Alyse Goldschmidt.Alyse has been involved with camp since she was 3 years old and began her camping experience at Stonybrook. At the age of 15, Alyse finally stopped being a camper and became a counselor at Stonybrook Day Camp. Alyse has held many positions at SBDC, including dance specialist, Junior Camp counselor, Trailblazer counselor, and currently TeenXtreme Director.

During the school year, Alyse teaches Special-Needs students, and she is currently working in a private Special Education school. Even though Alyse’s schedule is very full, she still finds time to teach dance and religious school.
Alyse is thrilled and excited to be the TeenXtreme Director and cannot wait for the summer!

Jen Hubert (Junior Camp Director)

Alyse Goldschmidt. Our Junior Camp Director, Jen Hubert, is a Livingston native and a Stonybrook alumna who started coming to camp when she was just 5 years old! She spent the next 10 years at camp both as a camper and a counselor. She has continued to move up the ranks, and we are pleased to have Jen, who grew up at Stonybrook herself, on the team as our Junior Camp Director.

When she's not at camp, Jen continues her work with children as a teacher of religious school at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel in South Orange and as a bar/bat mitzvah tutor at her home in Livingston. Jen also makes time to assist and support children with special needs through The Friendship Circle Organization and in the Preschool at her temple, Beth Shalom.

Jen is thrilled to return to camp this summer, and she is looking forward to making this a great summer--full of laughter, smiles, friendship, fun, and adventure--for all of the Junior Campers!
